FindingFIT logo     SELF-ASSESSMENT MODULE               <<Back

If you have read and digested the Introduction and Fundamentals page in FindingFIT, and prepared to organize your materials, you are ready to move on to the first FindingFIT module: self-assessment.  Here the goal is to define you, your "hand," rigorously and with solid data.  Enjoy!  It's a wild ride filled with emerging clarity about who you are and what kind of work you should be seeking.

In this first module on generating self-assessment data, you can choose which steps to take given you choice of the "Quick and Dirty," "Moderate" or "Thorough" tracks through FindingFIT.  There are more than two dozen self-assessment data generating devices below.  Each instrument has a different theory, format, style, focus, and presentation. You can take the insturments out of the sequence below according to your instructor's (if you have one) guidance or your own preference.  Remember, no single instrument is accurate enough or comprehensive enough to trust completely.  We're looking for patterns that recur in multiple data pools.  Also, take each instrument as "cleanly" as you can.  Don't try to second guess the instrument or what it's trying to measure.  It's your data: make it as clean (unbiased) as you can.

The FASTEST ROUTE:  "Quick and Dirty"  requires maybe 2-3 hours of attention.

The MODERATE ROUTE:  Requires a mid-range investment of time and energy, maybe 20 hours.

The THOROUGH ROUTE:  The most comprehensive and accurate approach.  How much time and energy is up to you.

NOTE:  We are constantly refining the site in part by adding on-line versions of the instruments below.  When you go to a page you will often see "paper" or "on-line" versions.  If the "on-line" words are not hyper-linked, please be patient and use the paper version.  The on-line versions are in the works.

WHEN you have completed your self-assessment to your satisfaction, you can go on to the "career development module" in which we guide you through the steps of job search using your self-asssessment effectively.
