The number one problem mentioned by upper middle level managers and executives world wide is balancing work, family and self.  Today's modern executives feel pulled in multiple directions and too often health and relationships suffer.  How to successful executives (some you've heard of, some you haven't) balance their lives?
BYL begins with three chapters describing models for a) balancing the various "--AL" aspects of life (physical, mental, social, etc.) at any one point, b) the unfolding chapters of life over time, and c) defining success.

The book then presents sixteen cases describing how executives manage not only their professional responsibilities but also their health, their relationships, their time, their energy, and their schedules.  The goal of these cases is to get behind the scenes and see more clearly the support structures that help productive executives do what they do in the world of business affairs.

The cases include men, women, different ethnic and racial backgrounds, Americans, Asians, entrepreneurs, traditional corporate people, and the well known and the not-so-well-known.  Each case ends with a series of questions designed to help readers assess and then connect the case subject's story with their own.

The book ends with a summary chapter and some guidance for how readers might proceed to take more control of their own lives and to build the kind of life balancing structure they want.
