Kamalini Ramdas' research interests focus on the management of product variety, with a more recent interest in service operations.  Ramdas has published articles in Management Science, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, Production & Operations Management, Interfaces, and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management.  She serves as an Associate Editor for Management Science in the R&D and Product Development area and as a Senior Editor for Production and Operations Management in the New Product Development, R&D and Project Management area.  Ramdas has served on the board of the POMS College of Product Innovation and Technology Management.  Research awards Ramdas and her research colleagues have won include a grant from the Ward Buchanan Fund to study profitable preventive cardiac care for women,  International Motor Vehicle Program (IMVP) funding to study the impact of product launch on manufacturing, a grant from the Marketing Science Institute (MSI) and the American Production & Inventory Control Society (APICS) to study product proliferation, a grant from the Huntsman Center for Global Innovation at the Wharton School, and Darden's Wachovia Award for research excellence.  In 2004, Ramdas served as a juror for the Catalyst Design Awards sponsored by the Industrial Design Society of America and BusinessWeek.

Ramdas teaches Operations and New Product Development at Darden.  She served as the course head for Darden's required first year Operations course during 2003-2006. In 2000, Ramdas was a recipient of Darden's Wachovia Award for excellence in course materials.  She was a nominee for Darden's Outstanding Faculty award in 2001 and 2002.  Prior to joining the Darden School, she was on the faculty at the Graduate School of Business, University of Texas at Austin, and an instructor at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  

Ramdas holds a PhD in Operations Management from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, an MS in Operations Research from the University of Delaware, and a BS in Mathematics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University.  She has consulted with firms in the automotive and other assembled product industries, in the areas of managing product proliferation and new product development.
