Topic: Managing direct investment.

Guest lecture: Jack Perkowski, Chairman and CEO of ASIMCO

John "Jack" F. Perkowski is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Asian Strategic Investments Corporation (ASIMCO), the largest independent, diversified manufacturer in China. Created in 1994, ASIMCO has emerged as one of the leading companies serving China's motor vehicle industry. The company's broad range of manufacturing capabilities enables the group to produce components, products and assemblies for a wide range of automotive, industrial and consumer applications.

In 1990, Perkowski began to research the concept of investing in Asia, which led to the formation of ASIMCO in 1994. He has developed ASIMCO's industry approach and strategy for taking an active management role which has led to the formation of 17 majority or wholly-owned components companies in China, as well as a U.S. based sales and distribution company. In a 2001 survey conducted by the Asian Wall Street Journal, the Far Eastern Economic Review and Hewitt Associates, ASIMCO was named one of the "10 Best Employers in China."

In 1973, Perkowski joined Paine Webber and was the director of investment banking when he left in 1988 to become the managing director of a leveraged buyout firm. From 1970 to 1971, he worked for Morgan Guaranty Trust Company in New York where he completed the bank's management development program.

He received a bachelor of arts degree (cum laude) from Yale University in 1970 and an MBA degree (with high distinction) from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1973 and was designated a Baker Scholar.
