Polen used regression analysis to determine the true source of
profitability for Titan Virginia Ready-Mix’s business (the delivery
of concrete). Capitalizing on that finding will easily increase
profitability by half a million dollars a year (for a company with
annual profits of approximately $20 million.)
Polen discovered that the speed at which Titan could unload its
concrete (Yards per Man Hour) varied by customer and was the most
important determinant of customer profitability. Changing to a
pricing system based, in part, on unloading time will help the
company better serve its more profitable customers. |
